A police investigation into a suspected meth lab inside an Manhattan apartment building that forced an evacuation late Monday turned up nothing more than legal bath salts, a law enforcement source with knowledge of the investigation tells NBC 4 New York.
The NYPD responded to calls of a dispute at 431 West 54th in Hell's Kitchen Monday night and found a third-floor apartment with possible hazardous liquids inside.?Neighbors had also complained about a toxic smell that burned their eyes.The building was evacuated and the NYPD bomb squad was dispatched to investigate the materials.
West 54th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues was roped off by police and dozens of people were displaced for a time.
A law enforcement source said early Tuesday that the investigation found a man in the apartment was manufacturing legal bath salts. No charges were filed and police said the investigation revealed no criminality.
