How to make your windows energy efficient

window curtains, energy efficient roman shades

We talk all the time about basic home improvements you can do to your home to make it more energy efficient. Something we haven?t discussed that much of though, is your windows. While they may not seem like they?re hindering your home from being truly green, there are sneaky ways that a window can in fact make your house less green. Keep reading to see what you can do to make your windows as efficient as possible.

First things first is make sure that your windows are double pane. This helps keeps hot air out of your house during summer and heat inside your house during the winter. Getting a double pane window is essentially like getting insulation for your house but just with windows. You need it for your walls and ceiling, so why not the part of your house that lets in that beautiful sunlight?

Don?t let the sunshine in

A simple way to make sure that you?re being energy conscious is getting some window curtains. These can help keep the sunlight out of your house which always warms it during the day and it?ll make sure that you use your air conditioning less. This is true especially if you get very thick curtains, they?re designed so they can not only block out the sun?s rays, but heat as well. These are an easy way to make sure that you?re always prepared to be as green as possible.

Seal it up

One other easy fix to make sure that you?re always being energy conscious is making sure that your windows are well sealed. Just by applying some weather stripping you can prevent tons of leaks that you may not even be aware of. The quality of your air will improve significantly because it won?t be dumping out all of the nice air you have inside, plus taking all the stuff from the outside in your house. Just visit your local home improvement store and you?ll be set.

Stylin? shades

Another great way to update your home to its maximum efficiency is to get yourself some energy efficient roman shades; these are specially designed to have your windows be as efficient and stylish then you?ll be completely set. Blinds always have a classy appeal to them, so by them doubling as something that can make your home greener, we say yes!
